General description

1,2-Dichloropropane (1,2-D), is a colorless watery liquid with a sweet odor. It sinks in water and produces irritating vapor. It is a short-chain chlorinated aliphatic compound, commonly used as fumigant and as insecticide. It is a widespread groundwater contaminant. Anaerobic bacteria have the capacity to reductively dechlorinate it to propene.

Application

1,2-Dichloropropane may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in wastewater, marine water, drinking water and air samples by gas chromatography (GC) technique.
