General description

Europium (II) chloride is awhite to pale pink solid with orthorhombic crystal structure. It is a stablematerial that is hygroscopic in nature. It can be prepared simply by reducingEuropium (III) chloride with hydrogen gas at high temperatures. It has atunable luminescence.

Application

Europium(II) chloride can be used as:
  • A dopant to prepare phosphor materials for energy-efficient solid-state lighting.
  • A pressure-sensor material.
  • A suitable precursor for the synthesis of Europium(ii) compounds coordination polymers with 2,2′-bipyrimidine-mediated ferromagnetic interactions.
