General description

Porapak porous polymers are spherical beads with consistent particle size, porosity, and surface area that help to insure analytical precision and accuracy.

For more information about any of our adsorbents, please visit sigma-aldrich.com/adsorbents
Porous polymers are the most suitable adsorbent for applications based on the analysis of gases, acids, amines, organics of low carbon number and water.[1] They are best suited for gas chromatography and are basically copolymers of polydivinylbenzene (DVB) which are very porous in nature ranging from mesoporous to microporous.[2] Porapak N is a porous polymer bead which provides significantly lower background at the carbon emission line.[3] They are suitable in separating H2, CH4, CO2.[4]

Application

Stainless steel columns packed with Porapak N and molecular sieve maybe used for the separation and determination of micro-quantities of formic, acetic, propionic, isobutyric, butyric, 3-methylbutyric and valeric acids present in biological media as end-products of microbial fermentation.[5]

  6. What does the 80/100 stand for in the product description?

    1 answer
    1. The 80/100 refers to the mesh size range of the actual particles.  When working with mesh size: the larger the mesh number, the smaller the diameter of the particle.  In this case 80 refers to a diameter of 177 microns and 100 refers to a diameter of 149 microns.  Therefore; the particles in this product with 80/100 will range between 149 microns and 177 microns.
