Application

Sodium chloride can be used as:
  • A reagent in the solvent-free chlorination of arenes to synthesize chlorinated arenes in the presence of (diacetoxyiodo)benzene as an oxidant.
  • A catalyst for the one-pot multicomponent reaction of aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile, and thiophenol to synthesize substituted pyridines.
  • A source of electrophilic chlorine to synthesize chlorinated thiophenes, selenophenes, and benzo[b]selenophenes via copper-mediated chlorocyclization.
