General description

Lanthanum(III) nitrate hexahydrate is a transition metal catalyst widely used in many organic transformations. It can be prepared from lanthanum(III) oxide by treatment with N2O4 or nitric acid. It is easy to handle and stable due to the presence of coordinative NO3− moieties. It also finds application in the field of nanomaterial synthesis.

Application

Lanthanum(III) nitrate hexahydrate can be used as a starting material:
  • For the electrochemical synthesis of a LaMnO3 thin film coating on stainless steel substrates.
  • In the solvothermal process for formation of doped lanthanide oxysulfide, La2O2S, in order to advance possible applications of this material in phosphors, fluorescent display tubes or heat transfer measurement.
  • For the chemoselective catalytic deprotection of acetonides.
  • In the preparation of highly active and nearly neutral lanthanum(III)nitrate alkoxide catalyst.

Features and Benefits

  • High stability
  • Low toxicity
  • Mild reaction condition
  • Chemoselectivity
  • Inexpensive
