General description

Sodium chloride, also known as halite salt, is one of nature′s most common minerals. It is a known electrolyte that maintains cellular integrity and homeostasis by controlling osmotic pressure and water balance. Sodium chloride is widely used in the food industry as food additive and preservative due to its antimicrobial property. It is added to laboratory buffers to increase their ionic strength. NaCl also finds application in the extraction of DNA. Sodium and Chloride are major electrolytes in biological functions.

Application

Sodium chloride has been used to:
  • Prepare PBS (Phosphate-buffered saline) solution.
  • in pre-treatment of tracheal cartilage tissue samples before decellularization.
  • As a component of trypticase soy agar medium to culture bacteria.
  • Prepare lysis buffer.
It is also used for regulation of acid-base equilibrium of body fluids along with sodium bicarbonate.

Features and Benefits

Tested for trace elemental impurities to ensure high purity.
