General description

IGF-I (insulin-like growth factor-I) is a member of a family of polypeptide growth factors. Rat IGF-I is a 7.69kDa protein containing 70 amino acid residues.
IGF-I exists in two isoforms (IGF1A and IGF1B) in mouse due to alternative transcription.

Application

IGF-I (Insulin-like Growth Factor-I) from rat has been used to study the the effect of IGF-I, IL-27 (interleukin-27) and IL-35 on the blood flow in the inflamed joints of rats.
IGF-I from rat has also been used to test its effect on the expression of its receptor in rheumatoid arthritis model.

Biochem/physiol Actions

IGF-I (Insulin-like growth factor-I) is a polypeptide growth factor that stimulates the proliferation of a wide range of cell types including muscle, bone and cartilage tissue. It mainly mediates growth and development. IGF-I is required for fetal growth and development. It is also involved in the growth and repair of heart tissues. IGF-I has been linked to neuroplasticity and hippocampal neurogenesis. It is important in the recovery from ischaemic injury.
IGF-I interacts with interleukins IL-27 and IL-35 and may play a role in chronic joint inflammation.

Physical form

Lyophilized without additives.

Reconstitution

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.
Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can then be diluted into other aqueous buffers.
