Application
Desmopressin is a synthetic alternative to arginine vasopressin that acts via V2 receptors in renal collecting ducts to regulate water retention. [D-Gln4]-Desmopressin may be used in studies of conformations and receptor activity of desmopressin analogues.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Desmopressin is considered safe for consumption during first and second trimesters of pregnancy. But, it shows high risk of arterial thrombosis. It is known to induce platelet factor VIII and VWF (Von Willebrand factor) and improves platelet aggregation. Desmopressin is found helpful in congenital bleeding disorder.

The solution structures of desmopressin, a nine-residue peptide with specific antidiuretic and antibleeding activities, have been studied in aqueous and TFE-containing solutions by two-dimensional NMR and molecular modeling techniques. It is found that TFE induces a conformational change of the

Three analogues of the antidiuretic drug desmopressin ([1-desamino,8-D-arginine]vasopressin) have been prepared. In two of these, gamma-turn mimetics based on a morpholin-3-one framework have been inserted instead of residues Phe3-Asn5, whereas the third analogue has a methylene ether isostere in place
