Biochem/physiol Actions
Tyrosine-protein kinase receptor (TYRO3) is a transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptor. It plays a significant role in the brain development during embryogenesis. It plays an important role in apoptotic cell clearance. In hepatocellular carcinoma, it is associated with tumor growth, aggressiveness and liver dysfunction. Mutations in the TYRO3 gene intronic regions are linked with asthma. TYRO3 is also a suppressor of type 2 immunity. As part of the TAM (TYRO3, AXL and MER receptors) family, it is activated by PROS1 (protein S) and GAS6 (growth arrest-specific gene 6). Changes in the expression of TYRO3 are linked with the proliferation and survival of cancer cells. Absence of TYRO3 in mice results in neurological disorders.
