General description

Histamine (C5H9N3) is a biogenic amine naturally present in many foods, fermented products and body cells in amounts without toxicological significance. It is also a contaminant mostly found in Scombridae family fishes, such as tuna and mackerel, as well as other seafood products when they are improperly handled or stored. The consumption of foods containing high levels of histamine may lead to an allergy-like food poisoning known as scombroid poisoning. Therefore, monitoring histamine levels is essential for ensuring food safety and preventing foodborne illnesses, maintaining product quality, and shelf-life.

Application

The Histamine Quick Test Strips are designed for determining histamine levels in the following applications:
  • Food and Beverage Testing
  • Seafood Testing

Features and Benefits

  • Rapid and Sensitive: Delivers swift results with the option of using either 250 μL of sample or 500 mg for fish samples, enabling semi-quantitative measurement across a range of 0-200 ppm
  • Time-Saving: Enables sample treatment and assay completion in under 15 minutes, ensuring efficient testing without compromising accuracy, saving valuable time for users.
  • User-Friendly Design: Simplifies testing with a convenient test strip design, eliminating the need for a plate or cuvette reader, enhancing accessibility and usability for individuals of all skill levels.

Suitability

This kit is suitable for the detection of histamine in food and beverage samples.

Principle

The Histamine Quick Test Strips are based on the histamine dehydrogenase catalyzed oxidation of histamine in which the formed electron mediator reduces a formazan (MTT) reagent. The intensity of the product color is directly proportional to histamine concentration in the sample.
