General description

Sodium bicarbonate is widely used as a physiological buffer. The pKa for bicarbonate ↔ carbonic acid reaction is 6.37. The pKa for bicarbonate ↔ carbonate reaction is 10.25.

Application

Sodium bicarbonate may be used to maintain 7.4pH in Iscove′s modified Dulbecco′s medium for growth of murine hybridoma cell culture. It may be employed as a component of RPMI-1640 liquid medium in a study.
