General description

Syndecan-1, also known as CD138, is a transmembrane (Type I) heparan sulfate proteoglycan and is a member of the syndecan proteoglycan family. The syndecans mediate cell binding, cell signaling, and cytoskeletal organization. Bearing properties of both heparan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate, Syndecan-1 functions as a cell surface proteoglycan membrane protein and participates in cell proliferation, cell migration and cell-matrix interactions via its receptor for extracellular matrix proteins. Altered syndecan-1 expression has been detected in several different tumor types.

Specificity

Cat. No. AB8230 recognizes mouse Syndecan-1.
Predicted to cross react with human, based on 100% sequence homology.
Reactivity with other species has not been tested.

Immunogen

His-tagged, full-length human recombinant Syndecan-1 protein.

Application

Anti-Syndecan-1 Antibody is an antibody against Syndecan-1 for use in WB.

Quality

Evaluated on a representative lot by Western blot on mouse liver lysate using 1:1000 dilution of Anti-Syndecan-1.

Target description

The expected molecular weight of monomeric Syndecan-1 is ~32 kDa; however, the core protein often migrates as an SDS-stable dimer with an approximate M.W. of 77 kDa Additionally, a high M.W. form of the protein may often be seen between 500-1000 kDa, likely the mature form of Syndecan-1, with all of its heparan and chondroitin sulfate additions. In whole tissues, this mature form often binds tightly to ECM molecules and may require solublization by urea extraction for additional SDS-PAGE analysis (Wilsie, 2006). Triton X-100 or similar mild detergents are sufficient to release the immature precursor forms of Syndecan-1.

Physical form

Rabbit serum containing 0.05% NaN3.

Storage and Stability

Maintain at -20°C for up to 1 year from date of receipt.

Control
Mouse liver lysate
