General description

Soy phosphatidylcholine (PC) or lecithin is isolated from Glycine Max (soybean). It is a phospholipid mixture with phosphatidylcholine as a major component, followed by phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylinositol.

Application

Soy PC (40%) has been used in the preparation of cytochrome c-encapsulated liposomes for proteoliposomes internalization studies.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Soy phosphatidylcholine (PC) is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and is used to mimic biological membranes. It has wide applications as an emulsifier in the food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries. Soy PC based liposomes are useful as a carrier for anticancer drug, paclitaxel.
