Gene Information

Application

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor 164 (VEGF 164) from rat was used for cardiomyocytes culture and Ca2+ transients′ measurement. It was used as a medium M-199 supplement utilized in in vitro incubation for examining the capability of CTS to limit the impact of biologically relevant molecules, in particular epidermal growth factor (EGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF2), and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) in rat epididymis segment 1 and 2.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor 164 also referred to as VEGF 164 or Vasculotropin is a growth factor that induces endothelial cell growth, vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. VEGF 164 can enhance collagen and fibronectin expression in mesangial cells which in turn stimulates TGF-β1-induced extracellular matrix. It also plays a pivotal role in progressive glomerular fibrosis.
Mitogen for endothelial cells, enhances vascular permeability, activates, and chemoattracts monocytes and is a procoagulant.

Other Notes

164 amino acid variant of rat VEGF.

Physical form

Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in 35% acetonitrile and 0.1% TFA containing 0.5 mg bovine serum albumin.

Analysis Note

The biological activity is measured by its ability to stimulate 3H-thymidine incorporation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells.
