General description

Sauvagine is a polypeptide derived from the frog skin. It belongs to the CRH (corticotropin releasing factor) family. Sauvagine is made of 40 amino acids. It may also be found in the brain of mammals.

Biochem/physiol Actions

A peptide related to CRF and urotensin 1 that was first isolated from the skin of the frog Phyllomedusa sauvagei. Potent releaser of ACTH and β-endorphin from the anterior pituitary.
Sauvagine helps to liberate ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) from the pituitary cells of rat. It has several important functions in the cardiovascular, endocrine and renal systems.

Previously, we showed that corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) injected i.p. mimicked epithelial responses to stress, both stimulating ion secretion and enhancing permeability in the rat colon, and mast cells were involved. However, the ability of CRF-sensitive mucosal/submucosal loops to regulate intestinal

Family B of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) is composed of receptors that bind peptides, such as secretin, glucagon, parathyroid hormone, and corticotropin releasing factor (CRF), which play critical physiological roles. These receptors, like all GPCRs, share a common structural motif

Peptides of the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) family are expressed throughout the central nervous system (CNS) and in peripheral tissues where they play diverse roles in physiology, behavior, and development. Current data supports the existence of four paralogous genes in vertebrates

Studies have shown a reduction of food intake following peripheral and brain injection of CCK. However, it remains to be established whether endogenous central CCK is involved in the regulation of food intake. We investigated the role of central CCK

Urocortin 3 (Ucn3) is a new member of the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) peptide family and is considered to be a specific and endogenous ligand for CRF type 2 receptors (CRF2Rs). The presence of CRF(2)Rs has been reported in the nucleus
