General description

Dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide is a single-chain surfactant.

Application

Dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide has been used in a study to assess the relation between counterion distribution and miscibility of counterions at the solution surface. This was deduced for surfactant mixtures containing common surfactant ions but different counterions. It has also been used in a study to investigate its micelle formation throughout the entire composition range of water-dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) mixtures using conductimetry, density measurements, and small angle neutron scattering.

Femtosecond fluorescence upconversion experiments were performed on the naturally occurring medicinal pigment, curcumin, in anionic, cationic, and neutral micelles. In our studies, the micelles are composed of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB), and triton X-100 (TX-100).
