General description

Choline chloride is a quaternary ammonium salt and associates with hydrogen bond donors (HBD).[1] It is essential for the vital physiological functions and is used as a nutritional additive. Choline is a source of methyl groups for methyl-transfer reactions.[2]

Application

Choline chloride has been used:
  • as a component of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) buffer and for choline uptake in cultured human neuroblastoma (SK-N-SH) cells[3]
  • for choline standard curve generation for quantifying phospholipase D (PLD) activity[4]
  • as a component of slice solution for the dissection of entorhinal-hippocampal brain slices[5]
