In Schaeffer-Fulton`s method, a primary stain-malachite green is forced into the spore by steaming the bacterial emulsion. Malachite green is water soluble and has a low affinity for cellular material, so vegetative cells may be decolorized with water. Vegetative cells are then counterstained with safarin (Schaeffer & Fulton`s Spore Stain B, Cat. No. 39955). The components and the method are also available as kit (Cat. No. 04551).

This work describes a novel strategy for the highly sensitive and selective detection of cysteine (Cys) and glutathione (GSH) based on the Hg(2+)-AGRO100-malachite green (MG) complex system. The dye MG, which has a very low quantum yield in aqueous solution
It is shown that the nonlinear optical phenomenon known as second-harmonic generation can be used for label-free, time-resolved study of the transport of molecules through living cell membranes. The adsorption and transport of a 300-Da molecular-mass hydrophobic ion at the

A highly efficient and perfectly reversible ionic gate that can be activated by pH or UV light is demonstrated. Switching between the OFF state and the ON state is mainly dependent on the surface charge transition brought about by a
With the recent discovery of a unique class of dual-specificity phosphatases that dephosphorylate glucans, we report an in vitro assay tailored for the detection of phosphatase activity against phosphorylated glucans. We demonstrate that, in contrast to a general phosphatase assay

Chitin grafted poly (acrylic acid) (chi-g-PAA) is synthesized and characterized as an adsorbent of toxic organic compounds. Chi-g-PAA copolymers are prepared using of ammonium cerium (IV) nitrate (Ce(4+)) as the initiator. The highest grafting percentage of AA in chitin obtained
