General description

DSPE-PEG(5000) Folate is a conjugate of folic acid and amino-PEG-DSPE (1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-(polyethylene glycol).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Folate receptors are cellular surface markers for numerous solid tumors. DSPE-PEG-folate (1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-[folate(polyethylene glycol)-5000]) incorporated into liposomes serves as a targeting ligand. Folate targeted drug delivery is useful in diagnosing and treating cancer and inflammatory diseases. Many molecules such as toxins (proteinaceous), immune stimulators and anti-cancer drugs can be delivered to folate receptor.

Conjugates of three components, folic acid-poly(ethylene glycol)-distearoylphosphatidylethanolamine (FA-PEG-DSPE), derived from PEG with molecular masses of 2000 and 3350 Da were synthesized by a carbodiimide-mediated coupling of FA to H2N-PEG-DSPE. The conjugates were characterized by 1H NMR, MALDI-TOF, and HPLC analysis
