General description
C24 Ceramide (d17:1/24:0) is a synthetic ceramide derived from a C17 sphingosine with lignoceric acid. Ceramide synthase 2 is responsible for the synthesis of C24 ceramide.
Application
C24 Ceramide (d17:1/24:0) has been used as an internal standard to quantify ceramide content in both subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue by ultraperformance liquid chromatography - tandem mass spectrometery (UPLC-MS/MS).
Biochem/physiol Actions
C24 Ceramide (d17:1/24:0) plays a vital role in inducing cell death. Altered levels of C24 Ceramide might be a potential indication in tumor monitoring.

Ceramides are the major lipid constituent of lamellar sheets present in the intercellular spaces of the stratum corneum. These lamellar sheets are thought to provide the barrier property of the epidermis. It is generally accepted that the intercellular lipid domain
