General description

The Micro-Mill II with stainless steel blade swiftly crushes 20 to 50 mL samples such as bauxite, limestone, bone, ceramics, pharmaceuticals and similar drier samples. Softer samples may be ground with dry ice. The rocker switch has two operating positions, pulse or continuous and comes with a built in safe operation indicator light that only glows when the mill is properly assembled.
The 1/5 horsepower (150 Watt) motor is protected from a jammed blade by a resetable circuit breaker. Rubber feet are non-skid and protect benchtops. Very hard material, greater than 7Mohs, can be processed using the accessory stellite faced hard blade. Supplied with a 1.8 m (6 ft) 3-wire grounded cord.

  • Swiftly crushes samples for further processing
  • Safety interrupt switch forestalls operation unless completely assembled
  • Grinding chamber disassembles for simpler sample recovery or thorough cleaning

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. What is the diameter of the particles leaving the grinder? What it the range of the of the output particles?

    1 answer
    1. This product is suitable for use with a broad range of sample types and is capable of reducing certain plastics to a very fine powder. However, there is no particle size stated or guaranteed. For best results, samples must be dry when milled. Freeze moist or oily samples and keep the grinding chamber cool by adding small pieces of dry ice into the grinding chamber with the sample. Do not operate the grinder continuously for more than five minutes.

  2. Would this be appropriate for pulverizing hair, nail, or tooth samples without producing excessive heat?

    1 answer
    1. This product requires a sample volume of 20 to 50 ml. The grinder is capable of pulverizing samples such as bauxite, bone, ceramics, coal, Devarda’s alloy, fertilizer, filter paper, fly ash, frozen tissue, glass, grain, kaolinites, leaves, limestone, frozen tissue, pharmaceuticals, pigment blends, rocks, roots, shale, seeds, slags, soil, teeth, and wood. While not specifically cited for use with a hair and nail sample, it may be suitable. However, the grinder should not be run continuously for more than 5 minutes. This may be precautionary based on heat generation. For use with softer samples or temperature-sensitive samples, dry ice may be added during processing.
