General description

Potassium iodide is widely used as an additive to fabricate perovskite solar cells and light-emitting diodes, to enhance their stability and performance. The excess I from KI fill in the Ivacancies and suppress potential pathways for ion migration. The K+ cations can bond with undercoordinated halides or passivate negatively charged trap states at the grain surface, which enhances the performance of the device. It can also be used as a catalyst in various reactions such as the synthesis of biodiesel and cyclic carbonates with five-membered rings.

Application

  • Optimal concentration of potassium iodide to reduce the black staining of silver diamine fluoride: This research identifies the optimal concentration of potassium iodide to minimize staining from silver diamine fluoride in dental applications, relevant for material science focused on dental materials (Detsomboonrat et al., 2022).
  • Optimized assay for hydrogen peroxide determination in plant tissue using potassium iodide: This article discusses an optimized method for determining hydrogen peroxide levels in plant tissues using potassium iodide, useful for academic chemists studying plant physiology or oxidative stress (Junglee et al., 2014).
  • Potassium iodide as a low-cost cathode material for efficient potassium-ion storage: This research investigates the use of potassium iodide as a cost-effective cathode material for potassium-ion batteries, highlighting its potential in energy storage applications (Alanazi et al., 2020).

Potassium iodide (KI) is a useful drug in the dermatologic armamentarium. It is successfully used for inflammatory dermatoses, most notably erythema nodosum, subacute nodular migratory panniculitis, nodular vasculitis, erythema multiforme, and Sweet's syndrome. KI is also successfully used for cutaneous
