General description

trans-Zeatin contains a hydroxylated isoprenoid side chain.

Application

trans-Zeatin has been used:
  • as a media supplement for the isolation and culture of pretransitional and transitional embryos
  • as a culture media supplement for incubating alginate strip culture
  • as a growth regulator in modified basal Murashige and Skoog medium

Biochem/physiol Actions

Zeatin upon reduction forms zeatin O-glucoside, which is widely present in plants. It possesses transportation and storage functions, along with defence against zeatin oxidases.
trans-Zeatin is a plant cytokinin
