Ponalrestat is an orally available, potent and specific inhibitor of aldehyde reductase 2 (ALR2) that blocks the conversion of glucose to sorbitol. Ponalrestat promotes root elongation through the inhibition of the flavin monooxygenase YUCCA in Arabidopsis.
