General description

Girard Reagents are N-substituted glycine hydrazides. They are classified as Girard-T (trimethylacetylhydrazide ammonium chloride), Girard-P (pyridinioacetohydrazide chloride) and Girard-D (N,N-dimethylglycine hydrazide hydrochloride). Girard Reagent-d5 is an isotope containing labeling reagent.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Girard reagents generate water-soluble hydrazones of carbonyl compounds aiding their separation. These reagents are sensitive and selective. d5-Girard reagent P (d5-GP) is useful in the labeling of steroid hormones for mass spectroscopy analysis enabling accurate cum sensitive steroid hormone quantification.
