Methiocarb is a synthetic carbamate pesticide that shows broad biological activity. It is widely used for its insecticidal and molluscicidal activity against snails, rice insects, and also on fruit crops for its bird-repelling nature.
As per the commission implementing regulation (EU) 2019/1606 of 27th September 2019, methiocarb (expressed as a sum of methiocarb, methiocarb sulfone, and methiocarb sulfoxide) is not approved for use in the European Union. A maximum residue limit (MRLs) of 0.01 to 0.1 mg/kg has been set for the presence of methiocarb in various products of plant and animal origin as per Reg (EU) 2021/155. Methiocarb is to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
The methiocarb CRM may also find the following uses:

  • Determination of methiocarb in water sample using boron-doped diamond electrode (BDDE) and differential pulse voltammetry
  • Development of a method to simultaneously measure methiocarb and its metabolites in five food products of animal origin (milk, chicken, pork, beef, and eggs) by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS)
  • Extraction and quantification of six carbamate pesticide residues in water, fruit, and vegetable samples using dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction and high-performance liquid chromatography
  • Simultaneous analysis of trace carbamate pesticide residues in tomato samples using graphene-based magnetic nanoparticles for their magnetic solid phase extraction and high-performance liquid chromatographic determination
  • Pre-concentration of 13 pesticide residues using a silica-based MSU-1 mesoporous material and their subsequent determination by UPLC-MS/MS in environmental water samples
  • Multi-residue determination of 200 pesticides and their metabolites in honeybee samples using liquid and gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry
