General description

Ethyl acetate ACS grade solvent meets or exceeds the high standards of the American Chemical Society (ACS). It is ideal for most research needs and delivers replicable, publishable results.
Ethyl acetate ACS grade solvent used in:
  • Routine chemical synthesis
  • Drying & purification
  • Critical labware cleaning

Application

Ethyl acetate (ACS grade) can be used as a solvent in the synthesis of 6-O-acetyl glycosides via selective acetylation of carbohydrates in the presence of a catalytic amount of sulfuric acid. 6-O-acetyl glycoside derivatives are applicable as precursors for the synthesis of complex oligosaccharides.[1]

Questions

1–3 of 3 Questions
  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  3. What methods or procedures should be followed to perform the measurements of 'Residue on Evaporation' and 'Titratable Acid', as outlined in the COA for product 319902?

    1 answer
    1. For an MQ 200 quality level product, it is typically not possible to share test methods. However, in the case of an ACS grade product, one can refer directly to the available ACS monograph.
The monograph provides specific instructions for conducting the residue on evaporation test, which involves evaporating 40.0 g (45.0 mL) of the sample to dryness in a tared, preconditioned dish on a hot plate (~100 °C). Subsequently, the residue is dried at 105 °C for a duration of 30 minutes.
Regarding the titratable acid test, the monograph advises adding 0.10 mL of phenolphthalein indicator solution to 10 mL of ethyl alcohol and neutralizing it with 0.01 N sodium hydroxide. Then, 9.0 g (10.0 mL) of the sample should be added, gently mixed, and titrated with 0.01 N sodium hydroxide until the pink color persists for 15 seconds. The requirement is that the usage of sodium hydroxide should not exceed 0.80 mL.
