Protein kinase R (PKR)-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (PERK)/EIF2AK3 (eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 α kinase 3) is a type I transmembrane protein, located on ER (endoplasmic reticulum). It is a member of the eIF2α kinase subfamily. This gene is located on human chromosome 2p. EIF2AK3 has 16 exons and is made of cytoplasmic and kinase domains.
Specificity
The antibody detects endogenous levels of PEK/PERK only when phosphorylated at threonine 981.
Immunogen
Peptide sequence around phosphorylation site of threonine 981(A-R-H(p)-T-G) derived from Human PEK/PERK.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Protein kinase R (PKR)-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase (PERK) helps to detect the protein-folding imbalance created by endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. EIF2AK3 works as an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress sensor to modulate global protein synthesis. Mutation in EIF2AK3 gene results in Wolcott-rallison syndrome.
