General description
Mouse albumin gene is mapped to mouse chromosome 5. It codes for an albumin, which is the most prominent protein in the blood plasma. Albumin is produced by the mature liver. Mouse albumin gene promoter region includes minimum six binding sites (A to F) for specific DNA-binding proteins.
Application
Albumin from mouse serum has been used in labelling by probe 2 for the characterization of matrix metalloprotease-12 by one-dimensional electrophoresis. It has also been used for the preparation of calibrator and controls in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
Biochem/physiol Actions
Albumin facilitates the formation of cytoplasmic lipid droplets in pancreatic stellate cells and adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells. In addition, it effectively regulates biological activity of adipogenic transcription factors, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR - γ ) and (CCAAT/enhancer binding protein (C/EBP).
