General description

A Certified Reference Material of the major urinary metabolite of methadone. Methadone, sold under various trade names such as Symoron, Amidone or Methadose®, is a synthetic opioid used medically as an analgesic and as a maintenance anti-addictive for use in patients with opioid dependency. Suitable uses for this reference standard include as starting material in preparation of calibrators and controls for LC/MS or GC/MS methods in methadone testing for applications in clinical toxicology or forensic analysis.

Application

  • DNA precipitation: This compound is vital for DNA precipitation protocols where it facilitates the aggregation of DNA fragments by reducing their solubility in water. This application is essential for genetic engineering and molecular biology experiments (Park et al., 2023).

  • Cell culture: In cell culture, ammonium sulfate is used to control the osmotic pressure of culture media, which is crucial for maintaining the health and viability of cultured cells, thus supporting tissue engineering and cellular research (Qin et al., 2024).
