Metolcarb is a systemic carbamate insecticide, widely used to control planthoppers, leafhoppers, and other sucking insects in rice, citrus mealybugs, onion thrips, Mediterranean fruit flies, pink bollworms, and cotton aphids. It acts by inhibiting the activity of the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme and blocking the hydrolysis of acetylcholine, causing hyperexcitation.
Metolcarb is not approved for use in the European Union (EU) as a plant protection agent, following the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009, repealing the Directive 91/414/EEC. But a default maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.01 mg/kg is set for metolcarb according to Art 18(1)(b) Reg 396/2005.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
Metolcarb CRM may also be used in method development and validation to analyze:
  • 126 pesticide residues in chicken samples using modified QuEChERS for sample pre-treatment and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography combined with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QToF-MS) for quantification
  • 250 pesticide residues extracted by the QuEChERS method from 109 processed fruit samples using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS)
  • 252 pesticides extracted from surface water samples by solid-phase extraction (SPE) using liquid chromatography quadrupole-orbitrap high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry
  • Trace residues of 300 pesticides from fruit and vegetable surfaces in 30 seconds by thermal desorption electrospray ionization and tandem mass spectrometry (TD-ESI/MS/MS)
  • 379 pesticides in human serum samples extracted by QuEChERS method using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • 117 pesticide residues in different tea samples extracted by in-syringe dispersive solid-phase extraction (IS-d-SPE) using ultra-performance liquid chromatography Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-Orbitrap-MS)
