Methyl 2,5-dihydroxycinnamate, a hydroxycinnamic acid, is a bioactive natural compound commonly derived from plants like Azadirachta indica and Murraya paniculata. Current research indicates that this plant-derived metabolite may possess diverse biological activities, encompassing anti-inflammatory and antitumor properties. Furthermore, it serves as a human urinary metabolite, a geroprotector, and an inhibitor of EC 2.7.10.1 (receptor protein-tyrosine kinase). It is a cell-permeable analog of erbstatin, a natural substance found in Streptomyces, demonstrates inhibitory effects on the autophosphorylation of the epidermal growth factor receptor. Moreover, it acts as a competitive inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor-associated tyrosine kinase, effectively impeding v-abl tyrosine kinase activation. Additionally, Methyl 2,5-dihydroxycinnamate has been observed to induce apoptosis in mouse thymocytes and inhibit the G2/M phase of the cell cycle.
