Cell Line Description

Derived from the ascitic fluid from a 64 year old caucasian female with an ovarian tumour. Forms moderately well-differentiated adenocarcinoma consistent with ovarian primary cells.

Application

SK-OV-3 cell line from humans has been used to study chimeric adenoviruses of Ad5 (species C) displaying proteins of the naturally enteric Ad40 (species F) as vectors for gene delivery.

Culture Medium

McCoy′s 5a + 2mM Glutamine + 15% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).

Subculture Routine

Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:3 i.e. seeding at 3-6x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
