General description
JumpStart™ Taq Antibody provides an efficient method for hot-start PCR. This antibody is a neutralizing monoclonal antibody specific to Taq DNA polymerase. When the antibody is bound to Taq, the enzyme is rendered inactive. At the first denaturation step in thermal cycling, the enzyme-antibody complex dissociates, and the JumpStart Taq Antibody becomes nonfunctional. Once the antibody is denatured, the activity of the Taq DNA polymerase is restored and the enzyme functions normally during the PCR reaction. JumpStart Taq Antibody is commonly used to prevent undesirable amplification products.
Application
JumpStart™Taq Antibody is suitable for use in:
- cytochrome blocked nucleic acid (LNA) probe assay[1]
- ligation-mediated polymerase chain reaction (LM-PCR)[2]
- in Real-Time quantitative PCR Analysis of viral titer[3]
- PCR amplification of complex genomic or cDNA templates
- to amplify very low-copy-number targets
- for the PCR amplification of many thermal cycles (>35) and multiple primer pairs in the same reaction tube

We demonstrate the utility of antibodies to the DNA polymerase from Thermus aquaticus (TaqPol) as thermolabile inhibitors of TaqPol activity. One of the limitations of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is the co-amplification of non-specific products caused by TaqPol activity
