General description

Benzyldimethyltetradecylammonium chloride (BTDACl), a quaternary ammonium compound, is a cationic surfactant. It is utilized as phase transfer catalyst in organic reactions. Kinetics, thermodynamics and reaction mechanism of biosorption of benzyldimethyltetradecylammonium chloride (tetradecyl benzyl dimethyl ammonium chloride) onto activated sludge has been studied.

Application

Benzyldimethyltetradecylammonium chloride (Dimethylbenzyltetradecylammonium chloride) may be used in the following studies:
  • Spectrophotometric determination of cobalt(II).
  • Preparation of mixed micelle with tetradecyltrimethylammonium (TTAB) and tetradecyltriphenylphosphonium bromides.
  • Preparation of modified analcime zeolite, used in the trace determination of cadmium.
  • As a phase transfer catalyst in the preparation of 2,3-epoxy-1-phenyl-3-aryl-1-propanones.
