General description

A Certified Spiking Solution® and internal standard for use in the quantitation of mycophenolic acid levels in serum or whole blood by LCMS. Assayed in therapeutic drug monitoring to ensure patients remain within the drug′s therapeutic range, mycophenolic acid is an immunosuppressant drug and the active metabolite of the prodrug mycophenolate mofetil.

Application

  • Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography in Pharmacokinetics: A study utilizes ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS/MS) to determine mycophenolic acid in human plasma, enhancing drug monitoring in clinical settings. This technique offers high sensitivity and specificity, critical for therapeutic drug monitoring of immunosuppressants used in transplant medicine (Upadhyay et al., 2014).

  • Comparative Methods for Immunosuppressant Monitoring: This research compares two rapid ultra-performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry methods for therapeutic drug monitoring of immunosuppressants, including mycophenolic acid, against traditional immunoassay techniques. The study highlights the precision and faster turnaround times of UPLC/MS/MS methods, offering significant improvements in patient care management for those undergoing immunosuppressive therapy (Tszyrsznic et al., 2013).
