Biofouling control essential for device performance and safety; minimize accumulation of biomolecules and bioorganisms.

Progress in biotechnology fields such as tissue engineering and drug delivery is accompanied by an increasing demand for diverse functional biomaterials. One class of biomaterials that has been the subject of intense research interest is hydrogels, because they closely mimic the natural environment of cells, both chemically and physically and therefore can be used as support to grow cells. This article specifically discusses poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) hydrogels, which are good for biological applications because they do not generally elicit an immune response. PEGs offer a readily available, easy to modify polymer for widespread use in hydrogel fabrication, including 2D and 3D scaffold for tissue culture. The degradable linkages also enable a variety of applications for release of therapeutic agents.

Designing biomaterial scaffolds mimicking complex living tissue structures is crucial for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine advancements.

Questions

1–2 of 2 Questions
  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

    High dispersity!

Dispersity is 1.18! Not suitable for my experiment:(

    Helpful?

    1. Response from MilliporeSigma:

We are sorry to hear this polydispersity value is not suitable for your application. Each lot is tested for polydispersity, the value is reported on the COA but we do not provide a specification range. The values from three of our past lots are 1.35, 1.35, and 1.34. You can search for the result of your lot by using the COA search on this page.

If you observed a different polydispersity than what is listed on your lot specific COA, you can contact us for additional technical support. Please visit https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/US/en/support/customer-support to submit a Product Technical Inquiry.

Proton NMR spectrum of poly(etylene glycol)methyl ether does not indicate the structure!

    Dear SA,
Your product MPEG5000 seems to have different structures/contaminants... In the spectra, by comparing -OCH3 end group protons with etylene protons, the degree of polymerisation calculated to be 50,7 instead of 113. Thus Mn is around 2260 g/mol (nor 5000 g/mol). Additionaly, there is an extra peak at 1,8-1,9 ppm is not related with MPEG5000 structure.. Our GPC study also indicates Mn around 2400 (not 5000) which fits well with NMR data... Please, reevaluate the structure of your product by considering our results...
