Application

Catalyst for:
  • Stille reaction
  • Hydrogenation reactions
  • Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling and Heck-Mizoroki reactions
  • Deoxygenation
  • Oxidation reactions
  • Coupling reactions
Palladium on carbon (Pd/C) (10 wt. % loading, matrix activated carbon support) can be used as a catalyst in the well known reactions like hydrogenation of alkenes, alkynes, ketones, nitriles, imines, azides, nitro groups, benzenoid and heterocyclic aromatics; hydrogenolysis of cyclopropanes, benzyl derivatives, epoxides, hydrazines, and halides; dehydrogenate aromatics and deformylate aldehydes.
It can also be used as:

  • A catalyst for hydrodechlorination of dichlorodifluoromethane (CCl2F2), which is a known greenhouse gas[1],
  • A catalyst for Heck reactions of aryl halides in ionic liquids[2]
  • An anode catalyst for the fabrication of direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFC)[3]
  • A cost-effective electrocatalyst for the oxidation of methanol[4]
  • In the catalytic hydrogenation of chemical hydrides for the production of hydrogen[5]
  • A catalyst in Suzuki-Mayaura reaction[6]
Product can be used with our benchtop hydrogen generator, H-Genie Lite (Z744083)

Questions

1–10 of 11 Questions
  1. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.
For more information, please refer to the Product Dating Information document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/449/386/product-dating-information-mk.pdf

  3. How much is the palladium on carbon

    1 answer
    1. This product is 10 wt.% Palladium on activated carbon support.

      Helpful?

  4. We are using this catalyst in our work. Do you have a particle distribution range for the activated carbon used?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, based on the specification sheet for Product 205699, a specification for the particle distribution range is not tested. This information is unavailable.

      Helpful?

  5. I wanted to ask how activated carbon was loaded with Pd. I appreciate if you could provide the preparation method.

    1 answer
    1. This product is an M-Clarity level 200 item. The method of preparation is considered proprietary for Products of this level.

  6. What is the particle size of Product 205699, Palladium on carbon?

    1 answer
    1. We expect the product to conform to the following: approximately 90% <60 μm and 10% <5 μm with an average particle size of 15 μm.

      Helpful?

  7. How does product number 205699, Palladium on Carbon, differ from 330108, which is also 10 wt % palladium on activated carbon?

    1 answer
    1. Product number 330108 is the wet support and appears as a moist black powder.  Product number 205699 is dry.

      Helpful?

  8. Is Product 205699, Palladium on carbon, reduced or unreduced?

    1 answer
    1. It is reduced, but it can oxidize pretty readily.

      Helpful?

  9. What is the activity of Product 205699, Palladium on carbon?  How is the activity tested?  Is it a guaranteed value?

    1 answer
    1. There is a fairly large variance in activity reported by the manufacturer on this material (from less than 50 ml/min to more than 100 ml/min).  Activity is not a specification but reported on the Certification of Analysis for further information.  Activity is measured by the hydrogen reduction of nitrobenzene.
