General description

Glutathione disulfide (GSSG) is the oxidized form of glutathione (GSH), an antioxidant containing cysteine, glycine, and glutamic acid. GSSG is composed of two reduced GSH molecules linked by a disulfide bond. GSSG plays an essential role in cellular redox balance, and protection against oxidative stress. The reduced glutathione-to-oxidized glutathione (GSH/GSSG) ratio serves as an indicator of oxidative stress. It is involved in various biochemical processes, including the regulation of immune function and metabolism.[1]
