General description

Diisopropylether (DIPE) is secondary ether. Besides its high-octane number, it has low toxicity, low production cost, and good anti-knock properties. It is flammable, non-reactive, colorless, and slightly soluble in water but has a high solubility in organic compounds. Due to its ability to liquefy oil-based solutions, it is being used as a solvent in paints, waxes, dyes, and stain removal. DIPE serves as a solvent in various chemical processes, also used as an extractant and oxygenate in motor fuel.

Application

Diisopropyl ether is used as a solvent in the aza-Michael addition of mono-and bifunctional amines to acrylate.
