General description

Monodisperse polystyrene based micro particles (size: 20.0 μm) are a particle size standard, designed for identifying the particle size distribution (PSD) profile of test samples.

Application

Fit for use in equipment particle size calibration.
Also used to:
  • standardize methods of size-dependent chromatographic separations.
  • validate the Airy Disc First Fringe (ADFF) analysis technique based on size measurements.
  • determine the impact of polystyrene microplastic exposure on feeding capacity of marine copepod Calanus helgolandicus.
  • produce monolayers in the synthesis of 2D nanomaterials coated micromotors

Features and Benefits

  • suitable for routine instrument calibration checks, testing and corrections
  • available in 5 mL pack size as a neat sample

Analysis Note

For every lot exact values of particle size and standard deviation are determined with an accuracy of 0.001 μm. The size determination of these particles follows procedures described by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, USA) respectively by the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR), esp.:
  • Transmission electron microscopy (TEM)
  • Scanning electron microscope
  • Light microscopy
  • Coulter counter with MDF-system
Calibration of equipment is carried out with NIST-respectively BCR-particle size standards.
