General description

Bradykinin fragment 1-7 (BK-(1-7)), an endogenous peptide, is present in plasma.

Application

Bradykinin Fragment 1-7 has been used as an external calibrant/standard in the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) analysis of protein spots.
Bradykinin Fragment 1-7 is used in research on the specificity and kinetics of kininase(s).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Bradykinin (BK) is a pro-inflammatory mediator and a neuromediator. It modulates several vascular and renal functions. Bradykinin (BK) plays a key role in inducing vascular permeability and mitogenesis. It helps to activate the liberation of nitric oxide in inflammatory and cancer tissues.

Experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) is a delayed cell-mediated autoimmune reaction to myelin basic protein. The neuropathology of this acute inflammatory process is characterized by cellular infiltration of the perivascular nervous parenchyma which increases the blood-brain barrier permeability.
