General description

Aluminum hydroxide is an inorganic compound widely used as an additive in electronic and polymeric applications due to its wide availability, corrosion resistance, light weightlessness, high melting point, good fire-retardant properties, and also its ability to release water of hydration at high temperatures (about 220 °C) to resist chemical bond breaking.

Application

Aluminum hydroxide can be used as an inorganic filler in polymeric industries to produce high-voltage outdoor insulation materials (silicone rubber composites) to improve flame retardancy and tracking resistance properties. In the fabrication of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP)- hybrid composites, aluminum hydroxide is used as a modifier to enhance the mechanical and fire-retardant properties of the composites.

Aluminum hydroxide also finds application in ceramic and glass industries to prepare heat resistance materials due to its non-flammability and high melting point characteristics.
