General description
Isocarbophos is an organophosphorus pesticide that belongs to the phosphoramidate group of compounds. It is widely used to control chewing and sucking insects and spider mites in cotton, rice, fruit trees, and vegetables. Isocarbophos is a potent acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor that gets activated by both contact and ingestion, blocking hydrolysis of acetylcholine and resulting in hyperexcitation.
Isocarbophos is not approved for use in European Union (EU) as per Regulation (EC) 1107/2009 (repealing Directive 91/414/EEC).
The EU Commission Regulation and US Environmental Protection Agency specified the maximum residue level (MRL) of isocarbophos in agricultural products as 0.01 mg kg−1 and 1 mg kg−1; and Chinese Agriculture has defined an MRL of 0.05 mg kg−1 for its presence in cereals, fruits, and vegetables.
Isocarbophos has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
Application
- To assess the bioaccumulation, metabolic disruption, and oxidative stress in adult zebrafish after exposure to isocarbophos using a 1H NMR-based untargeted metabolomic approach and LC-MS/MS
- To develop an aptamer-based sensitive lateral flow biosensor (LFB) for rapid determination of isocarbophos pesticide in foods
To develop an HPLC method for the analysis of dichlorvos, isocarbophos, and methyl parathion in plant leaves using chemiluminescence detection - Magnetic solid phase extraction based on magnetite/reduced graphene oxide (MRGO) for the determination of trace isocarbophos residues in different matrices, followed by gas chromatography (GC) detection
- To develop a dual-modal sensor combined with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) based colorimetry and persistent luminescence nanorods (PLNRs) based phosphorescence for highly sensitive detection of isocarbophos in vegetables
