General description

IL13Rα2 (interleukin 13 receptor subunit alpha 2) is a 42 kDa monomeric high affinity IL13 receptor.[1] This gene is located on human chromosome Xq.[2]
IL13RA2 is closely related to Il13RA1, a subunit of the interleukin 13 receptor complex. This protein binds IL13 with high affinity, but lacks cytoplasmic domain, and does not appear to function as a signal mediator. It is reported to play a role in the internalization of IL13. Recombinant human IL13RA2 protein, fused to His-tag at N-terminus, was expressed in E.coli.

Biochem/physiol Actions

IL-13Rα2 (interleukin 13 receptor subunit α 2) induces the progression, migration and invasion of glioma cells. It has the ability to initiate Scr (selective catalytic reduction), phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K), Akt (signaling pathway) and mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin).[3] IL-13Rα2 chain plays a key role in IL-13 cytotoxin-mediated therapy.[1] It is expressed at high levels in several human tumors such as oral squamous cell carcinoma, breast cancer, clear cell renal cell carcinoma, hepatic cell cancer, ovarian cancer and colorectal cancer.[1]
