General description

Pancreatic polypeptide (PPY) or PP is an endogenous peptide hormone. It is secreted by the PP cells of the Islets of Langerhans, in the pancreas. PPY is part of the neuropeptide Y family of hormones. It is a 36 amino acid proteinand the gene encoding it is localized on human chromosome 17q21.31.

Immunogen

Peptide with sequence C-TRPRYGKRHKEDT from the internal region of the protein sequence according to NP_002713.1.

Application

Anti-Pancreatic polypeptide/PPY antibody produced in goat has been used in immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Pancreatic polypeptide (PPY) or PP has glucoregulatory functions. It modulates biliary secretion and food digestion by preventing gastric emptying. PPY binds to the Y4 receptor and has a role in increasing the number of insulin receptors on hepatocytes. The protein has been associated with chronic pancreatitis and pancreatogenic diabetes. PPY also negatively regulates the expression of resistin hormone.

Immunohistochemical techniques were employed to investigate the distribution of amylin-like immunoreactive cells in the pancreas of gecko Homopholis fasciata. Four types of endocrine cells were distinguished: insulin immunoreactive (B cells), pancreatic polypeptide immunoreactive (PP cells), glucagon and pancreatic polypeptide immunoreactive
