Methyl purple is a quinone-imide redox dye.

Methyl Purple is a green colored powder. It changes color from purple (pH 4.8) to green (pH 5.4). Methyl Purple acts as an antimicrobial agent. In addition, it also aids in detection of lactic acid bacteria and determination of iron in human hair.
