Description

General description

1,2-Bis(trimethoxysilyl)ethane (BTME) is a bridged alkoxysilane that can be used as an organosilica based precursor that forms mesoporous materials. It can be prepared by hydrolyzing the alkoxy groups with Si-OH to form Si-O-Si structure.[1][2][3]

Application

BTME can be used to synthesize a shell based nanocomposite for potential application in drug delivery and encapsulation. It can also form magnetic hollow spheres which find usage in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).[4][5]

Functionalized mesoporous silica was synthesized from 1,2-bis(trimethoxysilyl)ethane.{27}
