General description

Hydrogenation of 3-(dimethylamino)propionitrile over palladium catalysts has been investigated[1].

Application

3-(Dimethylamino)propionitrile has been used:
  • to initiate the organic polymerization during the synthesis of class I hybrid poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)/silica hydrogels[2]
  • in preparation of cysteine modifying agents based on the solvatochromic fluorophore 4-N,N-dimethylamino-1,8-naphthalimide (4-DMN)[1]
Catalyst similar to TEMED used to form oxygen free radicals from ammonium persulfate. Free radicals cause acrylamide and bis-acrylamide to polymerize.
