General description
Human serum albumin (HSA) is an abundant protein found in the plasma. This globular, soluble, and unglycosylated monomeric protein, has three homologous domains (I, II, and III). These domains have subdomains A and B having common structural motifs. The HSA gene is located on the human chromosome 4q13.3.
Application
Albumin, Human Serum, Fraction V, Low Heavy Metals has been used:
- as a supplement in double buffer and milliQ-water for in vivo
- in serum-free media for polarized secretion assays in human dermal microvascular endothelial cells
- as a supplement in sodium phosphate buffer for the reconstitution of hormone lysis samples
Biochem/physiol Actions
Human serum albumin (HSA) is very crucial in stabilizing extracellular fluid volume. It functions as an excipient for vaccines and therapeutic protein drugs. HSA serves as a cell culture medium supplement for the synthesis of vaccines and pharmaceuticals. It is useful as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones. HSA is used to treat cardiopulmonary bypass, trauma, hemorrhage, and hypoalbuminemia. HSA is useful in biological applications, such as implantable biomaterials, biochromatography, surgical adhesives, and sealants.
Warning
Toxicity: Standard Handling (A)
Preparation Note
Prepared from serum that has been shown by certified tests to be negative for HBsAg and for antibodies to HIV and HCV.
Reconstitution
Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 6 months at -20°C.

After Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery, postprandial plasma glucagon concentrations have been reported to increase. This occurs despite concomitant improved glucose tolerance and increased circulating plasma concentrations of insulin and the glucagon-inhibiting hormone glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). To investigate whether

Neutrophil chemotaxis is a critical component of the innate immune response. Neutrophils can sense an extremely shallow gradient of chemoattractants and produce relatively robust chemotactic behavior. Glucagon is a metabolically important hormone, but many aspects of its physiology remain obscure, because glucagon secretion is difficult to measure in mice and rats due to methodological inadequacies. Here, we introduce and validate a low-volume, enzyme-linked immunosorbent glucagon assay
